Project No. KPOD.09.09-IW.02-0029/24-00
Total project value: PLN 65,391,989.37 (in words: sixty-five million three hundred ninety-one thousand nine hundred eighty-nine 37/100 Polish zlotys)
The aim of the project is to improve the efficiency of the GCT terminal in the Port of Gdynia and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as well as other harmful substances released into the air from the terminal. By replacing worn-out cargo handling equipment, the project will enhance the operational efficiency of the container terminal and increase its current handling capacity, enabling the processing of a greater volume of intermodal cargo.
Furthermore, the entire investment supports the transition towards a climate-neutral economy by replacing outdated diesel-powered equipment with electric-powered machinery.
The project involves replacing worn-out diesel-powered handling equipment (such as terminal tractors, reach stackers, and empty container handlers) with new electric-powered units. In addition, the investment includes the purchase of specialist software for managing the energy usage of the electric equipment fleet, the acquisition of electric power distributors (charging stations), and modifications to the infrastructure involving the expansion of the electricity supply system — including the installation of a transformer station and the construction of new low-voltage power connections.
The project has received support under investment measure E2.1.3 “Intermodal Projects” of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The applicant and the entity responsible for the implementation and execution of the project is Gdynia Container Terminal Sp. z o.o.

The Blue Supply Chains initiative aims to assist port authorities in reducing the harmful emissions produced by ships while they are docked at ports. The project is also developing a model for completely emission-free water transportation between ports in the Baltic region.
The Blue Supply Chains (BSC) project provides a comprehensive three-pillar approach for PAs to support the greening of port operations: by promoting the electrification of handling equipment, providing alternative fuels through a bunkering and charging strategy, and promoting the establishment of green transport chains. Solutions are developed collaboratively, tested in selected ports, evaluated, adjusted, and transferred to other ports. Cooperation with research institutions, private enterprises, and business support organizations ensures that end users are involved in the process and that the results are practical and market-ready.
